Starting in September 2020, there will be a brand new middle/high school option for families on Staten Island — Richmond Preparatory Charter School. This school will create 108 new seats for 6th graders in our first year and will grow to offer seats in grades 6 through 12.
You may ask, “Why does Staten Island need another school?” The answer is simple – to have options.
Charter schools exist to gives families options for their child’s education. No longer are your only options the local district or for-profit private schooling. There now exists a middle ground, and we are so proud to be a part of that.
The goal of our school is to create an environment in which students can thrive socially, emotionally, and intellectually. While doing this, we will also prepare students for a career path in the Computer Science/Information Technology field all while being inclusive of all students with special needs, especially those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The program we have developed is not offered anywhere else on Staten Island, therefore it presents a great, unique educational opportunity.
I am so proud to have the unique and exciting opportunity to be the founding principal of Richmond Prep. I have been with Lavelle Prep and Integration Charter Schools since 2009, and am thrilled to expand upon the great work that has been done so far.
The team that has been assembled for Richmond Prep is already hard at work building the best program that we can offer.
This space will serve as a way to communicate with our local community and beyond about our educational philosophy, our progress, and anything that we feel is worth sharing.
